Howdy GTD fans. I’m back from vacation in the Great North, with a replacement for the mysteriously vanishing FutureMail. Greg from Canadian Urban Eskimo has written a reminder system with a 100% Pure Email Interface. Here are the Three Easy Steps to Tickling Bliss:
- Subscribe by sending an email to admin@gtdmail.org.
- Complete the simple verification process (it wouldn’t do to give spammers a back door into your nice shiny GTDMail system), and you get your very own gtdmail.org email address!
- Send this address an email with your desired reminder date/time in brackets, in simple, intuitive syntax. Recurrence is supported, even encouraged!
- I know, but this one really isn’t a step. Enjoy your newfound peace of mind. And remember kids, it’s beta software, so go easy.
The full scoop can be found here and here. Go nuts.

I’m apparently having some DNS issues with FutureMail. I’m hoping to have things working again soon!

GTD Mail: now supports literal dates
I’ve updated the codebase and you can now set reminders like this:
Will set for June 20 this year
- [2005/6/20 8pm] Mow the lawn
Will set the remidner for Feb 18, 2006
- [2/18 8pm] mend…

Hi there, here via Michele…nice looking blog you have here. Your post awoke me to the fact that I will be traveling by plane in a few weeks and I now have a terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. Not your fault, I’m just terrified for no reason whatsoever of flying…you obviously don’t have that…lucky!

Thanks, Greg. I’m still a satisfied user. I’ve thought once or twice about trying Remember the Milk, but its email interface isn’t nearly as full-featured, and a task can only belong to one list at a time, which doesn’t fit GTD.
I tried Kinkless for a day or so, but it doesn’t like projectless tasks. So I keep coming back to Gmail. The only thing about it that I’m not satisfied with is its speed — or lack thereof.
