It’s another Stuff Don’t Work Day. You know you have those. Things just seem to fall apart. I seem to have more than my fair share as a Windows developer. Just a few examples from my day so far [note: I originally wrote this on 9.8]:

  • The wireless network boots me off a couple of times an hour, taking Synergy and Gaim down with it.

  • Gaim doesn’t play nice with ICQ. Every time Gaim goes offline (see above), I have to retry logging on to ICQ about ten times.

  • Visual Studio .NET’s debugger has decided not to attach to my app today. It ends up taking about three hours to fix a ten-minute problem.

  • The next file I need is buried about fifteen levels down — in the last folder I closed.

  • SharpReader crashes on every other feed.

  • Firefox goes under, taking with it ten tabs of web content that I spent twenty minutes sifting from (natch) SharpReader.

  • My phone holster suddenly rotates in the middle of the street and ejects my (previously scratch-free) phone onto the asphalt. First blood.

I could go on, but I don’t want to drag you down with me. And maybe it’s greener-grass syndrome, but when Stuff Don’t Work on my Mac at home, it still manages to not piss me off.
