It’s another Stuff Don’t Work Day. You know you have those. Things just seem to fall apart. I seem to have more than my fair share as a Windows developer. Just a few examples from my day so far [note: I originally wrote this on 9.8]:
The wireless network boots me off a couple of times an hour, taking Synergy and Gaim down with it.
Gaim doesn’t play nice with ICQ. Every time Gaim goes offline (see above), I have to retry logging on to ICQ about ten times.
Visual Studio .NET’s debugger has decided not to attach to my app today. It ends up taking about three hours to fix a ten-minute problem.
The next file I need is buried about fifteen levels down — in the last folder I closed.
SharpReader crashes on every other feed.
Firefox goes under, taking with it ten tabs of web content that I spent twenty minutes sifting from (natch) SharpReader.
My phone holster suddenly rotates in the middle of the street and ejects my (previously scratch-free) phone onto the asphalt. First blood.
I could go on, but I don’t want to drag you down with me. And maybe it’s greener-grass syndrome, but when Stuff Don’t Work on my Mac at home, it still manages to not piss me off.

September 19th, 2005 at 12:11 pmYou might like this firefox extension that will reload all tabs when you restart firefox. It’s saved me a number of times in situations just like you are describing.
It’s also great for me because I bring my work laptop home and voila, there are all my pages still open when I fire the machine back up at home.

September 19th, 2005 at 12:54 pmGreg: I found that extension on Friday and am in love with it. All I have left to try is the Cross Platform Portable Firefox hack, and if that works… Firefox Bliss!
