Steve Pavlina has some tips on how to become an early riser. Interesting stuff. I know I typically need less than 8 hours of sleep, but I hate the idea of going to bed late and getting up early — even if I could be doing something productive (like writing) with the extra time. Regardless, this seems like a good way to find out exactly how much sleep I do need.

May 24th, 2005 at 11:42 amHaving read these tips this morning, I considered something I read a few months ago: Where we can easily function on very few hours of sleep, the health risks (that may often not show up symptomatically for some time) are substantial. The biggest tips that have helped me are to try to be in bed by 10pm (and keep the lights low for at least an hour before that), keep the same same schedule (weekday or not), and try not to wake up using alarms. If I’m in bed by 10 and not sick I have no problem waking up routinely (on my own) between 5 and 6 am. Take a tip from our pre-electricity ancestors: if it’s dark, sleep.

I am a late-to-bed, late-to-riser. I think I was just pre-programmed to be a night owl. Makes my social life much more fun, too!

May 25th, 2005 at 9:05 amMy problem is that I’m a late-to-bed, early-to-riser. I feel active until late in the evening, but if I sleep in, I feel like I’ve missed half the day. Maybe I’m doomed to perpetual sleep deprivation.

Thanks to everyone who’s stopped by from Michele’s; I’ll try to clean the place up a little better next time.
